Belarus forced a passenger airplane en route from Athens to Vilnius to land in Minsk in purchase to arrest a journalist important of the authorities.

In accordance to condition media, an MiG-29 was applied to intercept the plane and land it in Minsk.

Greece’s overseas minister Nikos Dendias spoke by mobile phone with Lithuania FM Glands Bergis, who educated him on the conditions below which the Ryanair aircraft was pressured to land in Minsk and on the Lithuanian side’s attempts to transportation travellers to Vilnius.

The European Union claimed the  compelled landing of a Ryanair flight in Belarus to detain an opposition activist on-board has been explained as “utterly unacceptable” by the European Fee president. Journalist, blogger and activist Roman Protasevich who ran an opposition social media Telegram channel named Nexta, was detained on arrival at the airport.

Roman Protasevich, the Vilnius-based arrested journalist, now faces a dying penalty.

He is a known supporter of opposition figure Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
